Mato Arts Festival

Mato Art Festival is Anjeong-ri's signature culture and arts festival, whose name means "the art festival held on the last Saturday" — it takes place each June and October, with a different theme each time reflecting the season and the local character. This October's theme is "Broadway in Anjeong-ri," turning Anjeong-ri's Artists' Square into a musical stage with musical-centered performances and unique hands-on programs and events. The lineup includes themed performances by professional musical actors and ensembles, a brass quintet from the U.S. 8th Army band, and performances by local artists. There's also a stamp-tour program where visitors can become Broadway actors themselves, along with quirky experience events and a red carpet photo zone, offering participatory cultural content that locals, foreign residents, and visitors can all enjoy together. In particular, the U.S. 8th Army band performance, reflecting Anjeong-ri's unique character as a base town, creates a chance for cultural exchange between the local community and American service members, delivering a festival experience that brings together generations and nationalities.
