About
The Jeongeupsa Culture Festival is a local cultural festival held around the theme of "Jeongeupsa," the only surviving Baekje-era song, and the love story of the woman behind it. "Jeongeupsa" is a song in which a wife prays to the moon for her husband's safe return from a trading trip; its Hangul lyrics were recorded in the Joseon-era text Akhak Gwebeom. The festival aims to carry on the historical meaning of Jeongeupsa and introduce Jeongeup's unique cultural heritage to residents and visitors. Key traditional events include the Chaesu ritual, in which water is drawn from Jeonghae Village, and the Yeoinje memorial rite honoring the spirit of the Jeongeupsa woman. A new program this year lets visitors dress in Baekje-era costumes and hairstyles for commemorative photos. The festival introduces the legend of Jeongeupsa and Baekje culture through traditional rituals and hands-on experiences.
