Sunchang Jangnyu Festival

Sunchang Jangryu Festival celebrates Sunchang, a town famous for traditional Korean fermented sauces like gochujang (red pepper paste), doenjang (soybean paste), and ganjang (soy sauce). Now in its 21st year in 2026, the festival runs October 15–18 under the theme "The World's Taste, Captured in Sunchang," held around Sunchang Traditional Gochujang Folk Village and Sunchang Fermentation Theme Park. Visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences, performances, exhibitions, contests, and food all centered on traditional sauces and K-food. Highlights include the "Global Gochujang Making" program where locals and foreign visitors make gochujang together, a parade reenacting how Sunchang gochujang was once delivered to the king during the Joseon era, the "Global Sauce Culture School" where you can learn about Sunchang's sauce-making traditions, and K-food programs where you can make kimchi, makgeolli, pickled vegetables, and meju (fermented soybean blocks) yourself. There's also the "Sunchang Fermentation Village 1997" area, an augmented reality mission game called "Find the Sauce King," and the "Taste World Tour, Sauce Lounge" where you can view, taste, and try sauces — giving visitors many ways to experience Sunchang's sauce and fermentation culture.
